Lisa Quait’s career has been a journey of reinvention, shaped by bold moves, meaningful pivots, and a deep commitment to staying true to what matters.
From her early days working in business centres and high-energy commercial environments, Lisa quickly proved her strength in building partnerships, leading teams, and delivering results. But it wasn’t until she stepped away to focus on family that she discovered something even more valuable: a new perspective.
Starting and scaling her own business abroad sharpened her entrepreneurial mindset and taught her how to lead with both resilience and empathy. Returning to the flex industry years later, she brought that evolved approach with her—focusing on building strong cultures, supporting teams, and leading with care.
Now, as the ‘Realwoman.coach’ and host of ‘the Real Women’s Stories podcast’, Lisa has channelled everything she’s learned into helping other women unlock their voice, their power, and their next chapter.
Leading with Values at the Core
“My core values aligned with the business.”
That belief was tested when a client behaved unacceptably toward a new team member. Lisa chose to put people before profit. She made sure her team member felt supported, prioritising their emotional safety and following up with regular check-ins.
Her approach sent a strong message: in her leadership, wellbeing would never be traded for revenue. It’s a principle she carried through every role, and one that now shapes the way she coaches others.
From Self-Doubt to Self-Trust
Lisa’s openness about impostor syndrome resonates with many. Speaking at the GCUC Women in Flex lunch, she shared how she’d spent years feeling “never really feeling good enough” – a mindset that had cost her opportunities.
“I made the decision to stop letting that negative voice lead.” This decision, Lisa credits, is what allowed her to drive forward and trust her instincts, letting the doubts take a backseat.
It’s a philosophy she now shares with other women: you don’t need to erase your doubts to move forward, you just need to stop letting them steer.
The Skills That Make a Difference in Flex
For Lisa, the secret to standing out in the flex industry isn’t complicated, but it does require intention:
“Client care is everything. The people who stand out are the ones who go the extra mile whether that’s for a client, a manager, or someone in their team.”
Her advice to early-career professionals? Be approachable, curious, and willing to learn. Build relationships. Ask questions. Show up with energy and openness, and you’ll grow faster than you think.
Boundaries as a Leadership Tool
Lisa sees work-life balance as something you create, not something you’re given.
“Burnout doesn’t always come from workload, it often comes from ignoring what matters to you.”
For her, boundaries aren’t just about hours, they’re about protecting the values and priorities that make work feel sustainable. That clarity has shaped her career choices and the way she helps others navigate theirs.
The Career Advice She Lives By
“Always be accountable when you make a mistake. We’re all on a learning journey, and even now, I’m still learning every single day.”
Why Women in Flex Matters
Lisa is passionate about creating visibility for women in the industry:
“There are so many women in flex, but we don’t always see them, hear them, or properly recognise the impact they’re having. Women in Flex gives us space to connect, share stories, and realise we’re not alone.”
She sees the initiative as a platform for honest conversation on everything from mindset and confidence to self-belief – while encouraging more women to move into leadership roles.
Being a Women in Flex Ambassador
For Lisa, ambassadorship isn’t about a title, it’s about impact.
“It means showing up as myself being honest, real, and approachable and helping other women feel they can do the same.”
Her own time in the industry shaped her as a leader, gave her confidence, and taught her how to navigate change. Now, she’s determined to use her voice, experience, and platform to help other women do the same.
